Fine Antique Clocks

A miniature engraved gorge carriage clock with fine porcelain panels to the sides and unsually the rear door.

The gorge case, a style used by the best makers for their finest clocks, stands only three inches high and is beautifully engraved with floral and scroll decoration.

​

The eight-day duration movement repeats the last hour on a shaped coiled gong via a button to the case top, an extremely rare feature to be found on a carriage clock of such small size.

The backplate is stamped with the hand-setting arrow design as used by Alfred Baveux of Saint Nicolas d'Aliermont, one of the finest makers of movements of the period and supplier to Henri Jacot of Paris, themselves considered one of the leading and pioneering carriage clock makers. It is stamped ABV Déposé within an oval being one of the trademarks used by Baveux.
