A mahogany bracket clock of good colour which has an eight-day duration, five pillar double-fusee movement striking the hours on a bell and with border engraving to the backplate, repeated to the pendulum bob. The round painted eight-inch convex dial has black Roman numerals, blued steel 'spade' hands and is signed by the maker W. Martin, London.
The break-arch mahogany case has a pad-top with brass trim, with both the sides and full-opeining front door inset with brass fish-scale fretwork. There is a brass carrying handle to the top and stands on brass bracket feet.
* William Martin is recorded as working in King Street, Westminster from before 1802 until 1844 and is quite probably the maker of this name apprenticed to James Hicks of Whitechapel on the 30th of May 1786 for 7 years at a premium of £21.
