J.F. Fox, Barnstaple

A small mahogany drop-dial wall clock with an eight-day duration timepiece fusee movement. The round eight-inch dial has black Roman numerals, blued steel spade hands and is signed by the maker 'J.F. Fox, Barnstaple'. The small mahogany drop-dial case is of good colour and has a cast brass bezel with a silvered inner sight ring and a flat surround.

* J.F. Fox is recorded at 99, High Street, Barnstaple in the late Victorian period. Interestingly this was the former premises of John Gaydon, who was probably the most well-known Barnstaple maker who died in 1895. Presumably Fox had worked elsewhere and took on the Gaydon premises when the latter died.

Height: 12½ inches.
