Pearson, Oxford

A lovely small mahogany wall clock, the ten inch dial is painted with black Roman numerals & the maker's name 'Pearson, Oxford' and has blued steel spade hands. The cast brass bezel comes fairly close to the edge of the dark mahogany case. The eight day fusee movement has shaped plates with shoulders and steeped base and a shaped pendulum rod.

Two H. Pearson's are recorded in Oxford and seemingly worked together, being the sons of clockmaker Richard.

Hawtin is recorded as working from 1825, when he was made a Freeman of Oxford on the 10th of August. He was at 50, High Street until 1853. He had a son who was born in 1828.

His younger brother Henry is known to have married on the 29th October 1827 at Chipping Norton and became a Freeman of Oxford on the 2nd August 1830. He was in the High Street from 1853 until 1862 so presumably worked for or with his brother until this date and then took on the business in his own name.
