Villemsens a Paris

A super Victorian musical picture clock, the eight day duration movement has a silk suspension and strikes on a gong with the backplate signed by the maker 'Villemsens a Paris'. A seperate musical movement operates on the hour or by will with the instructions hand written and signed by the maker. The oil painting on canvas depicts a rural scene in the Appennines of a bridge over a river with various figures on the river bank, with mountains in the distance in front of which stands a church with the clock dial inset within the tower. With a well carved gilt frame typical of the period
F. Villemsens is recorded as working in Paris from at least 1820 until after 1840.
