Carlton, Torquay




A round convex dial wall clock designed as an over-pediment piece. The eight day timepiece fusee movement has shaped plates with the 12 inch convex dial signed 'Carlton, Torquay', with blued steel moon hands and a cast brass bezel. Contained in a round mahogany case which in turn is contained in a mahogany over-pediment case with carved decoration to the sides.


* William Carlton (sometimes spelt Carleton) is recorded as working in Torquay, Devon at 2, Braddons Row, Fleet Street before 1856, then at 14, Torwood Street and finally at Park Crescent. It is known that he carried out repairs to the tower clock at Torre Abbey.
