A small English carriage clock, the case with original gilding and engraved to all sides & top in a style reminiscent of Thomas Cole and his circle, with quite exceptional engraving to the dial and escapement. The chain fusee timepiece movement has maintaining power and a platform lever escapement. The gilded brass engraved dial has a white enamel chapter ring with black Roman hour numerals and blued steel spade hands. The case has a cast carrying handle, splayed feet and 'double' fluted pillars to the four corners. Although no maker's name is apparent on the clock the style of movement, escapement, case and engraving points to this clock being made in one of the leading London clockmaker's workshops of the mid-Victorian period. The quality of the casework is particularly good as is the colour of the original gilding.
