Gilberdi Mahogany Wheel Barometer

A lovely quality mahogany wheel barometer with an unusual theromometer dial set within the trunk that shows the temperature from -80 to 160 degrees fahrenheit! Extremely rare for a barometer's thermometer, the usual being 0 - 120 degrees. The mahogany case is of 'squared and waisted' design with a silvered hygrometer to the top and a level to the bottom which is engraved to the silvered dial with the maker's name 'J Gilerdi, Bristol', the eight inch silvered barometer dial is engravd with floral decoration to the centre with a blued steel hand and brass pointer set via the bone knob below and with a cast brass bezel. With a swan necked scroll pediment to the case top.

* J Gilerdi (sometimes spelt Gilardi) is recorded as working in Bristol from before 1835 until 1855. He may well have been the same maker who was working around the same dates at 6, St Nicholas, Bristol and who signed his pieces Gilardoni.
