An unusually small mahogany wheel barometer, having a six inch dial silvered and engraved with sunburst decoration to the centre and with the maker's name 'P. Bordoli, 17, Leather Lane, Holborn' top and bottom and with a cast brass bezel. The top of the case has a silvered hygrometer below which is a removable, engraved thermometer with a bowed glass and mouldings top and bottom. To the bottom of the case is a silvered level engraved with floral decoration. The mahogany case is of a lovely colour having a swan neck pediment and a flat bottomed base. Barometers with six inch dials are comparatively rare compared to the more normal larger sizes.
P. Bordoli is one of a number of members of this family recorded working in this area at the time and is probably the same maker of this name known to be working at 22, Charles Street, Hatton Garden, London. Anthony Bordoli, probably a brother or son, is recorded as working at 14, Leather Lane, Holborn, London from before 1852.
